SLCC Men’s Basketball Escapes with a 3-point Win
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (November 19, 2009) – The SLCC Men’s Basketball team escaped with a tight three point win over College of Southern Idaho 71-68.  Salt Lake went on an 11-0 run late in the first half to take a three point lead into halftime.  The largest lead of the game was held by Salt Lake after they went on a 10-3 run to start the second half.   Salt Lake and Southern Idaho both struggled to shoot the ball finishing the game shooting below 40% from the field.  Salt Lake remains unbeaten with a record of 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. 

Darian Norris finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Collin Chiverton also had 19 points on 6 of 15 shooting and a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line.  Wil Carter controlled the boards leading Salt Lake with 11. 

Salt Lake (6-0, 1-0 SWAC) looks to remain unbeaten when they head up to Coeur D’Alene to face the fourth ranked North Idaho Cardinals on Saturday November 21st.

SLCC Men’s Basketball Earns a Crucial Win

SALT LAKE CITY (November 14, 2009) – Salt Lake Community College and Mesa College fought to the bitter end with Salt Lake coming out on top 68-61.  The difference maker for Salt Lake was the free throw line.  Salt Lake reached the free throw line 32 times sinking 21 while Mesa only reached the line 15 times connecting on nine.  Salt Lake takes their record to 5-0 with SWAC play beginning next weekend.

Guard Darian Norris led the Bruins with 16 points and eight rebounds, six of his rebounds were offensive.  Sol Jensen earned a tough 11 points in the paint while collecting seven rebounds.  Collin Chiverton finished the game with 14 points and three steals.

SLCC (5-0) takes their five game winning streak on the road to face the hostile College of Southern Idaho crowd on November 19th followed by a trip up to #4 North Idaho November 21st.  North Idaho is the defending SWAC Champions.

SLCC Men’s Basketball Hits Triple Digits

SALT LAKE CITY (November 13, 2009) – The SLCC Men’s basketball team hit triple digits in a 69 point defeat of Hill Air Force Base 112-43.  The Bruin defense forced 30 turnovers while stealing a total of 20 balls, led by Darian Norris with five steals.   Salt Lake remains perfect with a 4-0 record. 

Wil Carter and John Hayward-Mayhew led all scoring with 17 points each.  Carter was 5-8 from the field and 7-8 at the free throw line while Mayhew took nine shots sinking eight.  LeSean Wilcox came off the bench with the hot hand scoring 13 points on 6-7 shooting.   Salt Lake hit the boards hard out rebounding Hill Air Force 48-21 led by Carter’s nine boards.

Salt Lake (4-0) faces Mesa College (2-0) tomorrow night in Bruin Arena, tip off scheduled for 7:30 pm.

Chiverton Leads SLCC Basketball over Western Wyoming
SALT LAKE CITY (November 10, 2009) – SLCC Men’s Basketball takes their winning streak to three games after defeating Western Wyoming 71-46.  The tough Salt Lake defense forced 23 turnovers while holding Wyoming shooters to 27% from the floor.  Collin Chiverton led all scorers with 28 points on 10 of 18 shooting while collecting five rebounds and two blocked shots.  Wil Carter finished one board short of a double double with nine rebounds and 11 points scored.  Krispin Banks came off the bench to score eight points on perfect 3-3 shooting. 

The Bruins (3-0) look to stay on a hot streak with two home games against Hill Air Force Base on Friday at 7:30 pm followed by Mesa Community College Saturday at 7:30 pm.

Coach Norm Parrish gets his 400th Win
SALT LAKE CITY (November 10, 2009) –  Salt Lake Community College would like to congratulate Head Men’s Basketball Coach Norm Parrish who won the 400th game of his career.  Over the past two seasons Coach Parrish has led his team to 63 wins while suffering only 10 losses.  In 2008, his team placed second at the NJCAA National Tournament; then in 2009 Coach Parrish led SLCC to the school’s first ever NJCAA National Championship, beating Midland College 87-80.  Following the National Championship, Coach Parrish was named NJCAA Coach of the Year.

During his career at SLCC, he has produced 10 NJCAA All Americans.  More than 200 players have worn the Bruin uniform for Parrish since he became the head coach in 1991, 80 of whom have moved on to the NCAA Division I ranks, with several now playing professionally overseas as well as in the NBA. 19 of Parrish’s players have been named NJCAA All-Americans and 24 have been Academic All-Americans.

EPHRAIM, Utah (November 7, 2009) - Head Coach Norm Parrish got his 400th win over Northeastern College 86-72. Darian Norris led the scoring with 18 points, Wil Carter finished with 16 points and four rebounds and Craig Cusic scored 13 with nine boards.

SLCC Men’s Basketball Wins Season Opener by 25
EPHRAIM, Utah (November 6, 2009) -  Salt Lake CC Men’s Basketball team opened up the 2009-2010 season with a 25 point win over Pro Look 101-76.  Collin Chiverton led the offensive onslaught with 27 points and six rebounds, Darian Norris finished with 19 points and Wil Carter scored 13.

The team returns to the hardwood tomorrow to face Mesa CC at 7:30 pm at the Snow College Tournament.

First National Championship In School History!

Hutchinson, Kansas (March 21, 2009)— The Salt Lake Community College Bruins defeated Midland College by a score of 67-60 for the school’s first ever National Title! The Bruins went on a 33-11 run in the last twelve minutes of the game to erase a 15 point drought of 49-34 with 12:37 left.

"We cranked up the defense in the last eight minutes to put a bit of pressure on Midland," said Head Coach Norm Parrish. "It was a great team effort and everyone stepped up big time."

Leading the way for the Bruins was sophomores Nate Bendall, Rick Shoff and Logan Magnusson and freshman DJ Wright. Bendall finished the night with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Bendall had 14 of his 21 points in the second half. Shoff played an outstanding game and he ended with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and Magnusson had 14 points and 3 rebounds. Wright scored a total of 96 points for the entire tournament and finished the game with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Wright was named the NJCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player and Bendall was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
