The Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program is a composite program of automotive refinishing and automotive collision repair.

AUTO COLLISION REPAIR You will be trained to repair damaged motor vehicles by:
• Straightening bent structures • Removing dents from fenders and body panels • Welding torn metal and replacing badly damaged parts |
AUTO COLLISION REFINISHING You will learn:
• Smoothing and sanding substrate • Undercoat, use and application • Base coat, mixing, matching & blending • Urethane clear coat application • Detailing |

The program is unique because of small classes, virtually one-on-one instruction and the latest and highest quality technical curriculum available in the industry. The equipment and lab facilities are the finest available anywhere.
SLCC is proud to offer ICAR qualification to students in the program.
Students receive individual attention in a hands-on collision repair and refinishing service learning environment. As part of the training, auto collision repairs are performed by automotive collision students. This service is available to faculty, staff and students.
The SLCC Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program works with automotive paint suppliers such as BASF, Dupont, Sherwin-Williams and others to conduct in-service seminars for industry professionals.

The program is located in the Miller Automotive Training Center at the Larry H. Miller Campus in Sandy.
SLCC Miller Campus has its own NAPA auto parts center located in the Miller Free Enterprise Center. Faculty, staff and students may call Wayne Smith at (801) 957-5329 to purchase parts or to schedule an appointment for vehicle repairs.
The Miller Campus was donated to Salt Lake Community College by Larry H. Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz, the Salt Lake Bees and a number of automotive related businesses throughout the Intermountain West.

SLCC has become renowned for its technical training and is proud to offer this world-class training by an outstanding, highly qualified faculty with many years of teaching experience.
Neal Grover is the program coordinator and Professor for Automotive Collision Repair. His experience includes nine years as owner of Grover Body & Fender, with over 45 years teaching experience at SLCC in the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program. Neal is an Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing alumni of SLCC class of 1958-60. He has a BS and Master’s degree in industrial education from Utah State University and has been an ICAR master teacher/trainer for 29 years.
Chuck Spainhower is instructor of Automotive Refinishing. Chuck brings 14 years experience to SLCC from By’s Body & Paint and has instructed many auto collision refinishing students over the past 30 years at SLCC.

Auto collision repair and refinishing specialists receive excellent pay and job security. Students can take advantage of SLCC’s strong network in the auto repair industry for job placement and career enhancement.
 Earnings in this field of technology are dependent upon a person’s work ethic and productivity. There are untold numbers of jobs available for anyone who completes the program. Many jobs are not in the actual hands-on repair area but jobs can range from sales of automotive repair products, including paint coatings, to insurance claims to shop manager. The list is endless. It is not uncommon for workers to earn $75,000 to over $100,000 annually. Because of the tremendous demand for trained technicians, beginning workers move rapidly up the ladder to higher paying positions.
