Why is this program unique

The program is unique because of small classes, virtually one-on-one instruction and the latest and highest quality technical curriculum available in the industry.  The equipment and lab facilities are the finest available anywhere.

SLCC is proud to offer ICAR qualification to students in the program.

Students receive individual attention in a hands-on collision repair and refinishing service learning environment.  As part of the training, auto collision repairs are performed by automotive collision students.  This service is available to faculty, staff and students.

The SLCC Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program works with automotive paint suppliers such as BASF, Dupont, Sherwin-Williams and others to conduct in-service seminars for industry professionals.

What are the facilities like

The program is located in the Miller Automotive Training Center at the Larry H. Miller Campus in Sandy.

SLCC Miller Campus has its own NAPA auto parts center located in the Miller Free Enterprise Center.  Faculty, staff and students may call Wayne Smith at (801) 957-5329 to purchase parts or to schedule an appointment for vehicle repairs.

The Miller Campus was donated to Salt Lake Community College by Larry H. Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz, the Salt Lake Bees and a number of automotive related businesses throughout the Intermountain West.

Earnings in this field of technology are dependent upon a person’s work ethic and productivity.  There are untold numbers of jobs available for anyone who completes the program.  Many jobs are not in the actual hands-on repair area but jobs can range from sales of automotive repair products, including paint coatings, to insurance claims to shop manager.  The list is endless.  It is not uncommon for workers to earn $75,000 to over $100,000 annually.  Because of the tremendous demand for trained technicians, beginning workers move rapidly up the ladder to higher paying positions.
