CABINETMAKING PROGRAM

A CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

WHAT IS THIS PROGRAM ABOUT?

Students will receive an understanding of basic woodworking principles, cabinetmaking and furniture making techniques.  Experience in using equipment, hand tools and constructing and finishing a complete kitchen and other personal choices of projects will be provided.

A competent knowledge should be gained in:
     - joinery
     - materials
     - techniques
     - wood characteristics

This course develops the student's understanding in the principles of furniture construction.  The methods used for applications and styles of furniture are included.

You will receive knowledge of:
     - safe operation of typical shop equipment
     - project design and hardware selection
     - cut-listing, cut-out, assembly and finish techniques
     - advanced cabinet design
     - estimating and ordering of materials
     - production methods
     - supervisory training
     - shop management
     - quality finishing techniques

Students gain practical knowledge in the use of AutoCAD that is essential in producing architectural drawings.  This course includes hands-on applications and producing simple drawings.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE?

Apply today and complete your Cabinetmaking certificate within one year (two semesters).

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Tuition and student fees are based on the SLCC resident and non-resident tuition schedule.

WHAT MAKES THIS PROGRAM UNIQUE?

You will work with beautiful woods and finishes while learning the intricacies of building amazing works of art and fine furniture.

Experienced instructors give hands-on instruction in a workshop environment for those with little or no cabinetmaking experience.

You will participate in designing and building custom cabinets for the project homes for the SLCC Building Construction Construction Management program.

WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES LIKE?

SLCC's cabinetmaking program is taught in the Construction Trades building at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus which is the epicenter of the College.

WHAT CAREERS ARE AVAILABLE?

SLCC maintains a continuous association with local cabinetmaking and architectural woodworking shops that have expressed interest in employing students from the SLCC cabinetmaking classes.
