| Before the barn came tumbling down and the walls of the first College buildings went up on Redwood Road, the Salt Lake Community College functioned as the Salt Lake Area Vocational School in downtown Salt Lake City for 20 years. Educational priorities met the needs of the times; the primary focus of the school was to train workers. | |

At the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, students enjoy plenty of amenities. The Lifetime Activities Center (LAC) gives students, faculty and staff access to a full-sized gym with state-of-the-art equipment, a running track, locker room, racquetball and tennis courts. In addition, the LAC holds two full-sized auditoriums for basketball and volleyball games. The Taylorsville Redwood campus is also home to a full-sized Quad, Student Center and library. The Alder Amphitheatre is a popular spot for outdoor summer concerts and other warm weather activities. SLCC Commencement is held at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. In the past, the Taylorsville Redwood Campus has hosted the One-on-One basketball tournament as well as the Rocky Mountain Revue – a series of pre-season NBA rookie games. Most SLCC student leaders call Taylorsville Redwood their home, as does the College newspaper and Radio station, The Globe.
