The Salt Lake Community College Taylorsville Redwood Campus is the administrative headquarters of the College and serves more than 15,000 students each year. Campus facilities include: an 88,000+ volume library; the Lifetime Activities Center, a state-of-the-art athletic facility; the Alder Amphitheater; and a multi-purpose Student Center.

Recent campus additions include: a new laboratory theater, an updated language lab, and a new photography lab and studio space.

Students can choose from a diverse selection of courses – from General Education courses to Aerospace Studies to Portuguese while pursuing two-year degrees, certificates or individual courses at the College.

The Taylorsville Redwood Campus is the epicenter of the College with 12 buildings spread across two blocks along Redwood Road and extending four blocks west. With a full-sized student center, fountains, an amphitheater and bustling sidewalks, the Redwood site epitomizes a college campus. It’s come a long way; just 35 years ago a small barn was the only edifice built on the site.

Before the barn came tumbling down and the walls of the first College buildings went up on Redwood Road, the Salt Lake Community College functioned as the Salt Lake Area Vocational School in downtown Salt Lake City for 20 years. Educational priorities met the needs of the times; the primary focus of the school was to train workers.

In the early days, classes included cabinet making, sewing, drafting, welding, commercial art, business (secretarial skills) and food service. Over the course of more than 50 years, funding, enrollment and curriculum changes have been made to meet the growing needs of the greater Salt Lake area.

Today, the College is one of the largest higher educational institutions in the state. Over 60,000 students enroll in daytime, evening, online and continuing education courses through the College. With 14 different sites, the College brings convenience and educational opportunities to communities from Tooele to Draper.

While each site is unique, all are committed to providing excellent education and putting students first; the academic standards are set at the Redwood Campus and applied to all College sites.

At the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, students enjoy plenty of amenities. The Lifetime Activities Center (LAC) gives students, faculty and staff access to a full-sized gym with state-of-the-art equipment, a running track, locker room, racquetball and tennis courts. In addition, the LAC holds two full-sized auditoriums for basketball and volleyball games.

The Taylorsville Redwood campus is also home to a full-sized Quad, Student Center and library. The Alder Amphitheatre is a popular spot for outdoor summer concerts and other warm weather activities.

SLCC Commencement is held at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. In the past, the Taylorsville Redwood Campus has hosted the One-on-One basketball tournament as well as the Rocky Mountain Revue – a series of pre-season NBA rookie games. Most SLCC student leaders call Taylorsville Redwood their home, as does the College newspaper and Radio station, The Globe. Every year, the Taylorsville Redwood campus hosts one of the largest Job Expos in the state.
