SLCC Board of Trustees Roster 2006-2007 | Jesselie Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Utah. She serves as a Legacy of Life committee member for the Deseret Foundation Heart and Lung Institute. She also co-chairs the Governor's Mansion Artist Series and is a board member for the Governor's Mansion Foundation. Anderson is the past chairperson of the Children's Center and the Utah Museum of Natural History. Presently, she is co-chair of the Waterford School Parents’ Advisory Committee and is a member of the executive committee for the Zoo, Arts and Parks Reauthorization Committee. top |  | | Beau Babka and his wife Kim are the parents of six children and live in Draper. Babka has been involved in law enforcement since 1992 and has held numerous positions including Community Policing Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Division Commander, Captain and Assistant Chief. He is a former member of International Chiefs of Police, National Police Chief's Association, American Criminology Society and is a member of the local Footprinters Organization along with many other state and local law enforcement associations. Babka is also an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice/Social Science Department of Salt Lake Community College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University, a master's of public administration from Brigham Young University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. top |
| | Richard (Dick) Bradford is currently the director of the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development. He joined the department in 1993, after working as executive director of the Sandy Economic Development Center. Mr. Bradford served 10 years in the Utah Legislature, holding numerous positions including chair of Public Education Appropriations. He is a licensed principal real estate broker and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah. He is involved in numerous civic and service organizations. top |
| | Jeff Edwards was appointed President & CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah in January 2005. He joined the company as the Vice President of Client Services in June 2001. He has worked the past 20 years in diverse technology marketing and management positions in the information technology and aerospace industries. Jeff is a graduate of the University of Utah, with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Salt Lake Community College and This is the Place Heritage Park Foundation. He is a long time member of the Governor’s Special Projects Committee, served on the Governor’s 2000 Transition Task Force and serves on the Boards of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Salt Lake Visitors and Convention Bureau and the Utah Information Technology Association. Early in his career, as a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, he was instrumental in getting high school science and engineering experiments on board NASA shuttle missions. In his ‘spare time’ he enjoys hiking and skiing and is an avid photographer. He and his wife, Karamea Evans Edwards, are the proud parents of four children, two dogs and one cat. top

| | Larry Hancock has served as the Utah Market President of Iasis Healthcare since June of 2003, where he is responsible for the development and operations of the Utah Market including four full-service medical/surgical hospitals: Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Jordan Valley Hospital and Pioneer Valley Hospital. Previous to his appointment at Iasis, Mr. Hancock has served as CEO of Altius Health Plans, American Family Care of Utah and St. Mark’s Hospital. Mr. Hancock has received two degrees from Brigham Young University, a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master of Public Administration degree.
top |  | | Leticia Medina is currently working as Executive Director of Utah Issues. Prior to this position, she served as Director for the State Community Services Office and Director of the Office of Hispanic Affairs. She has implemented various projects through collaborative efforts with public and private businesses and government on behalf of ethnic communities including poverty and homeless issues in the state of Utah. She continues to advocate for families who are under-served, and provides training to various organizations and families on diversity, gang intervention and prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, and vocational program development throughout the country. She serves on numerous boards and advisory committees that deal with education, housing, law enforcement, youth and family issues. She is the recipient of the Good Housing Keeping’s Women in Government Award for 2002 and a recipient of the 2003 National FBI Director’s Community Leadership award. top |
| | Gail Miller was born and raised in Salt Lake City. She graduated from West High School before attending the University of Utah. Miller worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Company for eight years before moving to Colorado in 1970. Miller and her husband, Larry, returned to Salt Lake City to start their own business in 1980. In 1986 she and Larry became the sole owners of the Utah Jazz. Gail also organized “The Rest of the Jazz,” a non-profit organization helping women and children in jeopardy in Utah. Miller is the mother of five children and grandmother of 19 grandchildren. Her interests include reading, sewing, genealogy and compiling family history books. top

| | Stan Parrish and his wife Joyce live in Salt Lake City and are the proud parents of six children and 14 grandchildren. Parrish has worked 21 years in the wholesale floor covering business--the last seven as President and CEO of the company. He worked for five years as Chief of Staff for Senator Orrin Hatch and was appointed by President Reagan to serve as Associate Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Returning to Utah, Parrish served as Governor Bangerter's Executive Director of Community and Economic Development, worked as President of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and then returned to the private sector. He is currently actively involved in four businesses ranging from low tech to high tech.

| David G. Thomas, Chair Born and raised in Ogden, Dave Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree from Weber State and a master’s degree from Brigham Young University. In 1970 he served as Gunn McKay’s first Congressional Intern; the experience motivated him to run for and win a seat for two terms on the city council in Plain City, Utah. Thomas taught junior high school band in Roy for five years and simultaneously began his career in advertising as a free-lance music composer. In 1981, he started his own advertising agency, which eventually merged into what is now Publicis Dialog, a global communications company. Over the last 20 years, Thomas has been heavily involved in many community organizations and boards and is serving his second term as a trustee at Salt Lake Community College. Dave and his wife Kathi are the parents of three sons who are now raising families of their own in Davis County. They reside in Farmington where they are very active in their religion, like to ride their horses and enjoy their mountain cabin whenever they can get away. top

| Halee Thomsen, SLCC Student Association President Halee Thomsen is currently serving as the Salt Lake Community College Student Association President. She was born and raised in West Valley City where she attended Granger High School. She has had many leadership and service opportunities as she continues to lead those around her. During her time at SLCC, she has served as a Student Senator, and now as Student Body President. Halee is currently pursuing a general studies A.S. Degree and will graduate from SLCC in 2008. After graduation she plans on transferring to the University of Utah to obtain a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. top |  |
