Community Partners

Community Partners are a critical piece of a successful service-learning experience.
Service-learning moves students beyond volunteerism to an advanced form of academically-based service. When community partners structure service experiences to meet course curriculum, students learn and grow far more than they would in the classroom alone. The community partner develops a relationship that may last long after the course is over, by recruiting a future volunteer, a donor, or a board member.

Want to tell students about your service opportunities? Register in The Exchange, our online database that hosts over 200 community partner organizations.

Need to reach students quickly? Post an announcement in our weekly e-newsletter that reaches over 1,300 subscribers.

Want to deepen your involvement with service-learning faculty and students? Attend the next Partners in Service-Learning event, and learn how you can benefit from this innovative method of teaching and learning.
Interested in recruiting volunteers in person? Sign up for our next on-campus information tables for community partners.

The Thayne Center for is always seeking new partnerships. We strive to create mutually beneficial partnerships; meaning that we help students meet their learning objectives and we also help your community organization fulfil your mission and goals.

Campus-Community Outreach Project

The Campus-Community Outreach Project is an AmeriCorps*VISTA program sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This three-year project (2009-2012) places VISTAs at partnering colleges/universities in Utah, where they focus on leveraging campus resources to meet poverty-related community needs.  Salt Lake Community College coordinates the project in collaboration with Weber State University and Utah Valley University.
